In femdom erotica the women who dominate their submissive male or female counterparts are often portrayed as cold-hearted evil bitches that delight in physically and mentally tormenting those in their thrall. If such women existed in real life they would likely be much hated and rightfully considered to be borderline or even full-blown narcissistic sociopaths. And yet, for an indeterminate number of femdom enthusiasts this persona taps into their libido and provides a thrill like no other.
As a purveyor of erotica, who am I to judge what is and isn’t erotic to others? Nonetheless, I don’t wish to help perpetuate that particular convention in femdom literature. I choose instead to offer more reality-based femdom fantasies that reflect my sensibilities and hopefully make the genre accessible to a wider base of readers.
So, consider yourself warned. Although there are plenty of fairly hardcore D/s scenarios woven into the vignettes of this anthology, the dominant women depicted possess well-integrated personalities. They are all relatively normal ladies who just happen to have a penchant for kink. Enjoy!
Femdom Alchemy edition by Jim Lyon Literature Fiction eBooks
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.Jim Lyon's Femdom Alchemy starts with a preface that makes it abundantly clear that he was not satisfied with the conventions of female domination erotica. Whereas most femdom is intentional cruel, almost hate-filled, Jim's characters clearly enjoy themselves. Whether it is F/F, F/M, F/F/M, or any other permutation, the BDSM is expressed in at least an affectionate if not a loving way. Far be it from me to criticize other writers, but it is the lack of caring and mutual pleasure in other stories that makes Jim Lyon's stories seem so superior. This is not say all of the stories in this collection were of the same appeal.
Story titles, and rough reviews:
Norah - Female and male dominants explore his submission. Excellent vignette and highly erotic in its brevity and clarity.
Samantha - sequence of scenes, female dominant meets and begins to develop a relationship with a male sub, culminating in an al fresco scene. This story has more pain than Norah did but it in no way overdone. It is an excellent example of what I meant about his stories being "affectionate" at times.
Marilyn - Femdom evolving rapidly into chemical and surgical sissification. While well-written and joyously executed, this story did not work for me. Reducing a man by making him a woman is the opposite, in my mind, of femdom, but that's just me. It makes being "female" a punishment or a sign of submission as I see it.
Denise - Circumstances introduce a male sub to a new female Domme, with highly erotic consequences. CBT and body modification are both aspects of this story. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this story but then again, it was highly consensual yet very clearly femdom and erotic. This story stands as evidence that Femdom BDSM can be loving yet play to the female using her partner's very male-ness as part of her power over him. Read the story, and this comment makes sense.
Suzanne - Much stronger CBT made this story a little closer to more "traditional" femdom but it never crossed over into abject cruelty. A very "charged" ending made me actually enjoy it a lot.
Marie - By far my favorite story. A husband and wife explore the necessity of femdom in their relationship. Another example of affectionate writing and genuineness in the stories. Again, my absolute favorite in the collection, I re-read it twice.
Stephanie - One of two longer stories in the collection, perhaps one of the only ones that I thought was completely unrealistic, but that did not take away from the joy of the story. Domme quite literally inherits four submissives from her aunt and we see her put them their their paces at least a little. More F/F aspects than the ones that precede it, and some of the references to pain play to the "pain-slut" idea very well. While not my favorite, it was very well executed and extremely erotic.
Sylvia, Annie & Julie - The second of the two longer stories, this one actually has the potential to be its own novella or novel. It presents a lot of "side-story" opportunities and a sweet story about the evolution of an unknowing submissive female as she explores her submission with different people.
The take-away from this collection? There is no reason why femdom erotica cannot be both loving and dominant. Pain for its own sake is not essential to sexually powerful stories, and the reality for people in such relationships is likely closer to Jim's version than to the "destruction porn" that passes for femdom.
Do yourself a favor and pick up this collection. It is very much worth your time.

Femdom Alchemy edition by Jim Lyon Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I'm not into the bdsm lifestyle so this book was a good peak about it. There are many well written short stories that focus mostly on the sexual encounters, but also it shows how the submissives are fulfilled when submitting to skilled Dommes.
Wow, what to say! An extremely well written and edited book to start off. There are a number of short stories in this femdom book and different ones hit different sub kinks. A couple were not my cup of tea but the writing was so good that it made me want to read that story too. And then there's the shorts that I really enjoyed and blam it ends. The first two were my favorite though I enjoyed most of them Be prepared for some pain because I know some of the scenes made me wince and squirm.
Even though I got this free for a review, if you like femdom this is a good read.
Breaking molds and defying the conventional wisdom is always fun, and that’s what Jim Lyon does in his Femdom Alchemy. The conventional wisdom is that dominant women in BDSM are cold and heartless, women who Lyon says in real life would be “rightfully considered to be borderline or even full-blown narcissistic sociopaths.”
Lyon’s goal in this collection of stories (or what might be more accurately called vignettes) is to portray dominate women in erotica as real erotic beings—“relatively normal ladies who just happen to have a penchant for kink.”
I couldn’t agree more, and it amped the heat level in this collection of erotica up a couple of notches. It’s explicit and hardcore, and Lyon’s voice has the sound of experience in this compendium of BDSM kink (woman-on-top variety). He takes a Victorian (a la My Secret Life) delight in presenting the most outrageous (to this BDSM novice) words and situations in a straightforward way (“Marie seemed to be enjoying making love to me in this manner. Each time she thrust into me the strapon slammed against her ... causing her to sigh with pleasure. This was not a frenzied coupling with the goal of a quick and intense orgasm, but rather an extended languid, loving embrace between soul mates that celebrated the rekindling of their emotional bond”).
The book was virtually error- and typo-free, which shows the author’s respect for his readers (and, sadly, something that has to be praised in this era of the slapped-together ebook). Stylistically, the faux Edwardian writing tended toward telling rather than showing, something that may not matter to other readers. Bottom line Femdom Alchemy is a fun, enjoyable and worthwhile read. (Note I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)
I don't personally know a lot about the BDSM lifestyle, so it was interesting to read about the different scenarios that could happen within the community. Some of the stories were from the Domme's point of view, and some were the Sub's, so we got to see both sides of the relationship. The characters were interesting enough to keep your attention, while the settings and dialogue were just enough to keep the stories flowing.
Then, there's the sex. Femdom Alchemy is a graphically erotic book, and you get detailed versions of the pain, pleasure, and vulnerability that these characters went through. You also saw the love and care that the Dommes gave them afterward, which is a key element in the BDSM lifestyle (from what I've heard).
As much as I enjoyed reading these stories, I did find some issues. There were several misspelled words, and the punctuation seemed to be lacking. What irritated me the most, however, was the fact that most of the stories ended in random locations. Some of the stories had appropriate cliffhangers, but most of them just ended with no real closure. Some of them ended in the middle of an action scene, which is frustrating because I (and other readers) would like to see the rest of the situation.
